Dulle griet

50 Vrijdagmarkt

Tel: 092242455

This beer café is located in the city center. In this square there are many cafés and restaurants and there is market on Fridays as the name of the square indicates. The café is name after a canon that never worked. It is on a lateral of this square and the name would be translated as "The Red Devil".

Here you have to order the beer of the house “Max van het huis”. It is served in a beautiful big glass. Do you remember the Kwack? well, that kind of glass but twice taller.

In order to get your Max you will need to give your shoe. No, I am not kidding. Your shoe is the guarantee for the glass. The waiter will put it in a basket and raise it to the ceiling with the help of a rope. When you pay the bill and they recover the glass you will get your shoe back.

There is not much to eat but you can order some cheese or a sandwich.

The pub is very busy most weekends but if you arrive early will have space and you can enjoy your beer in the afternoon. It closes at 1 a.m. everyday but Sundays that closes at 19 p.m.

Last time I went it was Sunday and it closed just when we arrived there. Of course as Spanish I could not believe a pub was closing at 7h... but this is Belgium.
